EVS Supply is proud to announce its critical role in advancing EarthScope’s Antarctic seismic research by assembling and constructing custom battery packs designed to withstand the extreme conditions of the South Pole. The TLP-93101E battery pack, constructed using bobbin-type lithium thionyl chloride (LiSOCl₂) cells, ensures reliable long-term power when solar energy is unavailable and temperatures remain brutally cold.
The TLP-93101E battery, developed in collaboration by Tadiran Batteries and EarthScope, was designed to meet the unique applications and needs of monitoring equipment used in Antarctica. These equipment systems are tasked with recording seismic activity and ice movement, requiring a dependable power source during the months of darkness when solar panels are unable to function and access to the equipment is restricted. With no need for recharging or intervention once deployed, the packs reduced the risk to researchers who would otherwise need to service equipment in dangerous conditions.
